2009 Volunteer Roles
As you know, the CSA is com pletely run by volunteers and each household is responsible to give 4 hours of time to help run the CSA this season. The majority of the volunteer time is spent staffing the CSA pick-up site, but there are other opportunities available to members.
If you have signed up for your volunteer shifts, you will be contacted via email or phone by Ginger, our Volunteer Coordinator.
If you have not yet signed up for your shift, please email Ginger at bedstuycsa@gmail.com.
Saturday Pick-Up Site
Shift times: 9:30am-11:30am, 11:30am-1:30pm, or 9:30am-1:30pm.
Members will assist in the set up and break down of the pick-up site. This includes, but is not limited to, carrying tables, unloading and setting up the produce deliveries, pitching the tent, signing in members, supervising member bagging/weighing, and more.
Volunteers should be comfortable lifting 30-50lbs.
Please note: We are outdoors, rain or shine.
The Bed-Stuy Farm Share is about more than just a box of produce; we’re about building community. We want to make your farm share experience valuable and relevant in your life, on and off your plate. We invite you to consider signing up for one of the following slots. And remember, we are not looking for experts, but passion and commitment over the course of the farm share season.
Information Table at Community Events
We conduct outreach continuously throughout the year to increase awareness of the Bed-Stuy Farm Share. We’re looking for outgoing individuals who are comfortable talking about local food issues. At every event, we’ll provide you with the materials you’ll need to successfully deliver your message.
Data Entry
We need to keep accurate records of the produce we’re getting every week, in addition to membership information and other record-keeping responsibilities.
Content for Newsletter & Website
Photographer
You don’t need to be a professional, just someone with a good eye and a sense for placement. We’ll be asking you to take photos at the pick-up, of our members, and at outreach events.
Article Writers (commitment to 2 articles of 250-300 words)
Have an opinion about a community or food issue and want to share it with us? Are you into health, fitness, and nutrition (profession or hobby)? Write for the newsletter and the website! Articles must be original content that focus on an aspect of health, food, nutrition, or life in
Bed-Stuy. We ask that you run your topic by us before submitting.
Recipe Contributors
Share your favorite recipes with us that use one or more of the ingredients you’ll find in your share each week.
Member Spotlight Articles
We want to get to know you! Over the course of the Farm Share, the Member Spotlight Coordinators will meet with you on Saturdays (we’ll have sign up sheets for the following weeks) and ask you a few questions. We’ll take a photo and add it to the newsletter and/or website.
Website
The Member's website needs regular updating! We’re looking for people comfortable with web-based applications (no programming; HTML experience helpful but not necessary) to fill in the missing information – veggie facts, resources, etc.
